The organisation is presently working with the rural communities of Dungarpur where majority of the population falls under the Bhil tribe. The main operational areas of the organisation cover villages located in the Bichhiwara, Simalwara, Aspur and Sagwara Block, Dungarpur District and Kushalgrah Block of Banswara as well as villages located in adjoining Banswara and Udaipur Districts. PEDO is involved in Community Organization and Mobilisation, Identification and promotion of Participatory Development Programs, establishing the function mechanism including skill enhancement and Capacity Building of the Communities. The Organization also provides Support Mechanism for Spread and Sustainability of the different actions initiated through various Developmental Programs. Having gained more than three decades of experience through various Development Programs, PEDO now, concentrates on following major areas of interest and concern:
Bichhiwara, Simalwara, Aspur and Sagwara are four Administrative Blocks of Dungarpur district in which PEDO had initiated a number of developmental initiatives. Over a period of time, through two and a half decade, PEDO's interventions in development field have experienced certain transitions. In the Initial phase (1980-85), the Organization devoted its entire thrust of motivation, education and rapport building. This Phase was crucial for the Organization as it was to establish a trust among the target mass. Therefore approach of all programs, undertaken during this phase, was Individualistic in nature. The next "Program Implementation" (1985-90) has become a turning point for the Organization which led to a change in the Organization’s Approach as it turned into a Meta Approach - Group and Institutional Approach rather than focusing on individuals alone. During this phase PEDO started the Common Land Plantation programs and women's saving and Credit Management Program with village-based groups and institutions. This phase experienced a great change and success. In the "Experiment Phase" from (1990-93), PEDO experienced with establishing campaign oriented village institutions that were to play a role of activist against issues related to Deforestation and Land Use Management sectors. Besides all these, parallel educational programs were also implemented at village level where education groups were prepared to promote education in the area. At present, the Organization is going through a "Management Phase" (1993 onwards), where programs are run at grass root level with the help of such institutions and groups with a focus to make them self sustained. Against this background the project caters to the need for institution building with tribal community, where the major actors are tribal community and the activities are carried out by Village Institutions. The physical interventions through the project cater to the need for Natural Resources Management and also served the purpose of financial incentives.
